Wood & Biomass

Wood is an important resource in our society. It is in demand both as a building material and as an energy source. Additionally, a large portion of private forest ownership in Austria is in the hands of farmers.

Wood as a raw material

RWA is a key player in the domestic timber trade. In the Wood & Biomass business sector, timber is marketed that is either purchased directly by RWA or through the Lagerhaus cooperatives from forest owners and cooperative members in Austria. Additionally, roundwood and firewood are imported from neighbouring countries to meet demand in Austria. All available types and qualities of wood are traded, including roundwood, pulpwood, and energy wood. By pooling timber volumes from individual Lagerhaus cooperatives, RWA can also balance regional or seasonal volume fluctuations when needed.

From a logistical perspective, RWA and the Lagerhaus cooperatives rank among the largest rail shippers of roundwood in Austria. Customers include the sawmill, paper and panel industries, as well as heating plants.

Lagerhaus and RWA also offer forest management services.
